The State Duma called on Russia to withdraw from the World Health Organization
State Duma Deputy Pyotr Tolstoy called on Russia to withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The parliamentarian noted that the organization supported sanctions against Russia, including closing the office for the prevention of non-communicable diseases in Moscow.
“They are trying to impose ideas and rules on Russia that do not correspond to our values. The combination of these factors suggests that there is nothing for us to do in this organization,” the deputy emphasized.
The question of Russia’s withdrawal from the WHO arose, among other things, during the discussion of a bill banning gender reassignment in the State Duma. Tolstoy called for abandoning the introduction of the norms of the international classification of diseases that relate to the issue of a person’s gender and “cut off” the ideology alien to Russian society.
The MP admitted that he has few supporters on the issue of withdrawing from the WHO, in particular, he is not supported by the Ministry of Health, which considers the work of the organization to prevent epidemics and pandemics to be important.
In March, the State Duma approved in the first reading a package of bills that introduce criminal and administrative liability for the importation of unregistered medicines and medical devices into Russia, even if they are included in the list of the World Health Organization.
