Roskomnadzor named the reason for blocking the Kompromat.ru website
The Kompromat.ru website was blocked in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) for disseminating false information, the press service of Roskomnadzor told RBC.
“Access to the site is permanently restricted for the dissemination of unreliable socially significant information, including discrediting the actions of the authorities of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism),” the message says.
The editors of the Kompromat.ru website responded to RBC's request that they knew nothing about the reasons for the blocking. They explained that they regularly receive orders from Roskomnadzor demanding that they stop disseminating information in this or that material.
These regulations are studied by the portal’s lawyers. Those that cannot be disputed satisfied. “In accordance with none of the previously received such instructions, the RKN did not notify that a decision was made in the form of blocking the site,” the editorial office explained to RBC.
Kompromat.ru was created in 1999. The site publishes biographies and materials exposing politicians, businessmen, artists, security officials, etc. In 2010, the resource was acquired by Andrey Rutberg's Neive Limited.
This is not the first time Kompromat.ru has been blocked. In September 2017, the site stopped opening in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism). The decision to block was made by the Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow. A court representative told Vedomosti that the reason was the lawsuit Yu.N. Gushchina and Yu.V. Khlebnikov to Neive Limited due to a violation of the personal data law.
Later, Roskomnadzor explained that the site was blocked for copyright infringement. Department representative Vadim Ampelonsky clarified that several court decisions were made regarding the portal, including those related to violations of the law on personal data.
