The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption has found signs of illegal enrichment and false declarations of more than UAH 42 million in former ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova. The National Police has initiated criminal proceedings.

Source: NAPC in social networks

Details: The department does not name the suspect, but based on the circumstances of the case, it is clear that we are talking about Denisova.

The Agency conducted full audits of declarations for 2022 and 2023 and found in the actions of the former Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, who at the end of 2023 was a member of the board of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, signs of illegal enrichment of almost UAH 10 million and signs of false declarations of more than UAH 32.4 million.

Based on the results of the verification of the declaration for 2022, signs of inaccurate information were found for more than UAH 12.4 million, of which UAH 2.4 million was not reflected in information about the income from which the declarant repaid the loan to the bank, and indicated UAH 10 million, allegedly received as a loan from a third party. In the declaration for 2023, this financial obligation increased to UAH 20 million.

In addition, following a full audit of the declaration for 2023, NAPC also established signs of illegal enrichment in connection with the declarant’s acquisition of monetary assets from unconfirmed sources to repay a loan to a bank, the amount of which exceeds her legal income by UAH 9.9 million.

Let us recall:

  • The Verkhovna Rada dismissed Denisova from the post of ombudsman on May 31, 2022.
  • Earlier, people’s deputies collected signatures expressing no confidence in Lyudmila Denisova. This happened against the backdrop of a scandal when the ombudsman was reproached for her reports on sexual crimes committed by Russian occupiers against Ukrainians during the war. “Sexual crimes during war are tragedies of families, a difficult and traumatic topic, and not a topic for publications in the spirit of “scandalous chronicles,” a group of Ukrainian journalists wrote in an open appeal to Denisova.
