The Third Court of Cassation of General Jurisdiction did not satisfy the complaint against the sentence of the former head of the executive committee of the Kaliningrad branch of the United Russia party, 43-year-old Maxim Suvorov, convicted of sexual abuse of a minor, follows from the information on the website of the court.
In July 2021, Maxim Suvorov, who headed the executive committee of the regional branch of United Russia, was sent to a pre-trial detention center. As the press service of the Leningrad District Court reported at the time, he was suspected of a crime against the sexual integrity of minors.
The investigator insisted on taking Suvorov into custody, as he believed that “being at large, he can destroy evidence in a criminal case, hide from the preliminary investigation and the court.” In addition, “having extensive connections in state authorities and law enforcement agencies”, remaining at large, Suvorov, according to the investigation, “will have the opportunity to use them” in order to avoid criminal liability.
The politician got into custody almost immediately after he suddenly resigned his party position and left the ranks of the United Russia.
In October 2022, the Guryevsky District Court found Suvorov guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in a strict regime colony, and also recovered compensation for moral damage in the amount of 500 thousand rubles in favor of the victim.
The actions of the defendant in five episodes were qualified under paragraph “b” of Part 4 of Art. 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (other acts of a sexual nature using the helpless state of the victim, if they are committed against a person under the age of fourteen).
“42-year-old S. met an 11-year-old victim on a social network, introducing himself under a different name. On one of the days of November 2020, having met the boy in a deserted place, S. put him in his car, where he committed a crime against him. Then he forced the victim to delete their correspondence. S. committed similar crimes against the victim repeatedly, intimidating and blackmailing him,” the court said in a statement.
The case was investigated for a long time, since Suvorov did not admit his guilt. Among the witnesses whose testimonies helped the investigation were children, from whom the convict learned information about his victim. They saw his car and managed to take a picture of it.
