The Internet is discussing footage from the State Duma, in which the deputy Sergei Veremeenko tongue twisted. The parliamentarian himself says that he was ill. What is Veremeenko famous for and why do his ex-wives love America?
What happened in the State Duma
At a State Duma meeting, deputy Sergei Veremeenko took the floor to discuss foreign intervention, but was unable to really ask a question. He spoke slowly, inaudibly, swallowing his words, which the chairman Vyacheslav Volodin I had to interrupt him.
The video instantly received hundreds of thousands of views. One gets the impression that the parliamentarian is drunk. A few hours later the deputy reception responded. There statedthat the politician had recently suffered from the flu, but in the morning he was definitely in normal condition. And late in the evening Sergei Veremeenko himself gave a refutation.
In the morning, a network of Tver media headed by the family of a local media magnate Vladimir Orekhovpicked up and disseminated explanations of the disgraced policy. Let’s make a reservation that for Veremeenko the Tver region is his political homeland. He sat for two terms in the Tver regional parliament and was twice elected to the State Duma from the region.
The anonymous portal tveractual.ru, created a week ago, went the furthest in supporting Veremeenko, whose editors demand an apology to the deputy. The previous material of this portal washed the bones of Vadim Deshevkin, the political rival of Sergei Veremeenko in Tver.
Why is Sergei Veremeenko famous in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism)?
68-year-old Sergei Veremeenko is not only a deputy, but also a successful businessman, a legend of the harsh 90s. Its meteoric rise is linked to oil. His name was mentioned in criminal cases about burst banks and sold-out lands. Then he went into the shadows, taking up military service and politics. Forbes at one time estimated his fortune at $420 million.
Before the Life.ru article about Veremeenko I haven’t heard anything for a long time. Search engines on the Internet returned only positive content for him: he developed horse breeding in the Tver region, founded a temple – a museum of icons in the Moscow region, restored mosques in Bashkiria, and finally, works for the country’s defense complex.
Veremeenko is indeed a holder of state secrets and is closely connected with the military-industrial complex. His family owns a research and production enterprise where they make radiation-protected microcircuits for intercontinental ballistic missiles.
What is known about the American Veremeenko
A year before the start of the SVO, Life.ru found in the American registers the namesake of the Russian deputy – Sergei A Veremeenko. And they were born on the same day. Like our Veremeenko, he had several wives. Their names and ages also matched. There was no doubt that this was the same person. Back in 1994, in the state of California, Veremeenko was issued a Social Security Number – a social security number assigned to US citizens and residents. Next, a cottage was purchased for $1.3 million in the California resort village of Harbor Point on the shores of Richardson Bay. Now this property is valued at more than $4 million. At the end of the 2000s (when Veremeenko went to politics) it was given to the Egan Of Kim Living Trust.
Apparently, with his current wife, actress Sofia Arzhakovskaya, Sergei Veremeenko occupied a mansion worth about $3 million in Los Angeles on Empyrean way. Veremeenko also rented offices in San Francisco from 2002 to 2020. In the next office was Sergei Pugachev, an entrepreneur who has long been hiding from Russian justice and a former partner of Veremeenko, with whom they opened Mezhprombank in the 90s.
Veremeenko paid some taxes in the United States – in 2018, he accumulated debts amounting to $146 thousand.
It is noteworthy that the largest video about Veremeenko was prepared by American journalists from the publication Vice. In 2014, they came to visit him. He fed them caviar, gave them vodka, took them to the bathhouse and hunting, showed them his collection of icons worth $200 million. The program is called A Day with a Russian Billionaire. The screensaver showed a Russian businessman in shorts lying on the skin of a polar bear.
Now sanctions have been imposed on Sergei Veremeenko. Officially, he can no longer travel to the USA. But his wives can, including both ex-wives, with whom he maintained business relations after the divorce (according to the SPARK database). His first wife appeared in American telephone directories after the start of the SVO – Alla Veremeenkoshe occupied a two-room apartment in San Francisco, and also with her current third wife, Sofia Arzhakovskaya, she settled in one of the Los Angeles mansions.
