According to the prosecution, in 2021 Bardakhanov decided to receive a bribe from a defendant in a criminal case of fraud and causing property damage, which was being investigated by the Republican Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The lieutenant colonel requested money from the defendant’s lawyer to stop the criminal prosecution. In July, a police officer met at a hotel in Irkutsk with an intermediary who, as part of an operational experiment, brought a dummy simulating 15 million rubles. As a result, the deputy head of the department was detained red-handed.
Bardakhanov was charged with attempted bribery by an official on an especially large scale (Part 3 of Article 30, Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*aggressor country)) and was sent to one of the pre-trial detention centers in Irkutsk. The deadline was extended several times. The defendant’s lawyers tried to appeal the preventive measure, pointing out that their client is married, has two minor children and is characterized exclusively on the positive side. However, all attempts were unsuccessful. As a result, Bardakhanov spent a total of more than 2 years in a pre-trial detention center. The leadership of the Buryat Ministry of Internal Affairs removed the lieutenant colonel from his post, but did not dismiss him from service.
During the preliminary investigation, four examinations were carried out, including chemical, phonoscopic and linguistic, the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for the Irkutsk Region clarified.
The Oktyabrsky District Court of Irkutsk sentenced 46-year-old Bardakhanov to 9.5 years in a maximum security colony with a fine of 30 million rubles (twice the amount of the bribe). In addition, the convict was deprived of the special rank of “Colonel of Justice” and was given a seven-year ban on certain positions in law enforcement agencies, the court’s press service reported.
According to data from open sources, Bardakhanov served in the internal affairs bodies since 1999, and held the position of deputy head of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (*aggressor country) for the Republic of Buryatia for more than 7 years.
