The Simonovsky Court of Moscow sentenced the founder of the New Stream group of companies (GC) to ten years in prison in a maximum security colony. Dmitry Mazurov in the case of theft of Sberbank credit fundsembezzlement of funds from the Antipinsky Oil Refinery (Tyumen Region) and the organization of an attack on a resident of Khabarovsk.
As a Business FM correspondent reports, he was found guilty of fraud on an especially large scale, embezzlement (Part 4 of Article 159 and Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism)), intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm (Part 3 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism) ).
The second defendant, former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alexander Kurilov, was sentenced to eight years in a maximum security colony. He was charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm (Part 3 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism)), beatings and intentional damage to someone else’s property (Article 116, Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism)).
The investigation interpreted Mazurov’s failure to repay Sberbank loan funds in the amount of $100 million and 11.997 billion rubles as fraud. The investigation believes that they were kidnapped. The accusation of embezzlement concerned the withdrawal “together with unidentified persons” of funds from the Antipinsky Oil Refinery in the amount of 1.785 billion rubles under fictitious contracts with a number of individual entrepreneurs.
The investigation alleged that Mazurov, through the vice-president of the New Stream group of companies Yuri Navrazhny for security (put on the wanted list), organized an attack on escort girl from Khabarovsk Yulia Milshtein, thereby trying to get rid of her.
“Kommersant”, 12/12/2023, “Dmitry Mazurov got into a new stream”: If there were only these crimes in the case, the entrepreneur could have gotten away with a relatively small punishment, but his final sentence consisted of two episodes – economic and purely criminal. According to the prosecution’s version, which was again fully accepted by the court, in 2015 in Tyumen, on the order of Dmitry Mazurov, the unemployed Kurilov attacked the oligarch’s ex-girlfriend in the entrance of a residential building, inflicting several stab wounds on her. Allegedly, the organizer of the attack was afraid that the girl might compromise him. […]
Alexander Kurilov was sentenced to 8 years as a prison sentence instead of the requested 13.5 years. The discount may have been due to the fact that the contractor, as the customer, was found guilty of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm (Part 3 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism)) and intentional damage to property (Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism)), but acquitted on charges of assault (Article 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism)). […] Sberbank PJSC called the verdict “objective and legal.” “When it passed the judgment, the court fully and comprehensively examined all the evidence available in the case,” the credit institution noted. — Insert K.ru
The defendants denied guilt. The prosecution demanded 16.5 years for Mazurov, and 13.5 years for Kurilov in a maximum security colony.
As Business FM previously reported, the victims filed civil claims against Mazurov in the criminal case. Thus, Sberbank demanded to recover about 12 billion rubles and 100 million US dollars from Mazurov. Antipinsky PNP insisted on paying Mazurov 1.7 billion rubles, and Yulia Milshtein – 9 million rubles in compensation (7 million rubles from Mazurov and another 2 million rubles from Kurilov).
The court partially satisfied them. Thus, the court ordered Dmitry Mazurov to pay more than 21 billion rubles in Sberbank’s claims. He must compensate the Antipinsky Refinery 1.7 billion rubles, and the victim Milshtein – 0.5 million rubles. Alexander Kurilov will reimburse the victim a similar amount.
After the verdict was announced, Dmitry Mazurov’s defenders announced that they intended to appeal the verdict on all counts due to the lack of proof of the events of the incriminated crimes. “From 2013 to 2018, Sberbank received repayments of loans, interest and commissions amounting to more than 355 billion rubles against 315 billion issued in loans for the construction of the Antipinsky Oil Refinery,” Mazurov’s lawyer Timur Khutov told Business FM. “The fact that the court did not agree with the state prosecutor and imposed a punishment almost two times lower than what the prosecution requested does not make us very happy, since the guilty verdict was handed down without sufficient evidence, is unfounded and contradicts the doctrine of criminal law.”
He noted that “since the investigation understood that the economic charges against Dmitry Mazurov were easy to refute,” a year after the arrest, at the final stage of the investigation, in order to keep the businessman in pre-trial detention beyond the deadline, the businessman was charged with organizing the infliction of grievous harm to the health of an escort girl, “which he doesn’t even know.”
The lawyer drew attention to the fact that the case of an attack by an unknown person on escort Milshtein at the entrance of a house in Kolomensky Proezd (where she rented an apartment) was initially conducted by the Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nagatino-Sadovniki district. “The deputy head of this police department, according to open data, in 2015 was then Alexander Evgenievich Evteev. A person with a similar last name, first name and patronymic in the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs subsequently began to lead the investigation into the economic case of Dmitry Mazurov, which the defense considers to be no coincidence,” Khutov said. He added that the victim herself changed her testimony in the case several times, and the prosecution found only one, and that was a secret witness, who was interrogated in the room next to the hall.
