The court in Novosibirsk sentenced the former co-owner of the Traveler’s Coffee chain of coffee houses Anvar Piriev, accused of bribes to an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for information about a competitor. Earlier, Piriev was convicted of setting fire to the property of the Novosibirsk chain of coffee houses “Academy of Coffee”, co-founded by the former top manager of “Travelers Coffee Moscow” Konstantin Budanov.
The Dzerzhinsky District Court of Novosibirsk sentenced Anvar Piriev to seven years and seven months in a strict regime colony, as well as a fine of 3.2 million rubles. according to paragraph “b” part 4 of Art. 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (giving a bribe), the Judicial Department of the region told Continent Siberia on September 5. The decision was made taking into account the earlier verdict of September 30, 2021.
The verdict did not enter into force.
We are talking about a criminal case about bribes, which, according to the investigation, Piriyev transferred to the detective of the OEBiPK of the Russian Interior Ministry’s department for Novosibirsk, Yevgeny Pushkarev. Funds in the amount of 312 million rubles, as well as a car worth 800 thousand rubles. were intended for the transfer of information about the top managers of the Novosibirsk chain Travelers Coffee, with whom Piriev was suing for the right to use the brand of coffee houses. In October 2021, the ex-cop was sentenced to eight years in a strict regime colony.
Recall that at the end of September 2021, Piriev was sentenced on charges of extortion and destruction of property. According to the investigation, he organized arsons of several establishments of the Coffee Academy networkcars of its founders, as well as dachas and baths of other participants in the coffee market in the region.
ksonline.ru, 09/30/2021, “Ex-co-owner of a well-known coffee shop chain sentenced in Novosibirsk”: According to investigators, Piriev demanded from one of the former top managers of the network a corporate server with business information and a sum of more than 20 million rubles, which he allegedly owed him. Kommersant.Ru, 09/05/2022, “Seven to seven”: The punishment for the businessman was imposed by partial addition to the sentence of the Sovetsky District Court of Novosibirsk dated September 30 last year. Then Anvar Piriyev was found guilty of intentional destruction of property (Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and arbitrariness (Article 330 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and was sentenced to seven years in a penal colony. According to the investigation, with which the court agreed, the businessman organized the arson of the property of competitors.
In January 2017, a dacha and a sauna that belonged to a top manager of one of the Novosibirsk coffee chains burned down, and in June the fire destroyed his Toyota Land Cruiser. In the autumn of the same year, the police received reports of the arson of three different coffee houses in Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and the Range Rover Evoque SUV, which was owned by the co-founder of one of them. The total amount of damage amounted to more than 12 million rubles.
The police combined the criminal cases of arson into one proceeding. The investigation established that their alleged organizer was businessman Anvar Piriyev. The motive for the crimes, the case says, could be competition between former business partners, the goal that the businessman set for himself was “a long-term suspension of their (coffee shops – Kommersant) activities and disorganization of their work.” — Inset K.ru
Then the prosecutor’s office demanded the maximum punishment for the totality of crimes in the form of ten years in a strict regime colony, but the court reclassified the charge under the article on extortion on an especially large scale to a less serious one – “arbitrariness” and sentenced Piriyev to seven years in prison. The verdict was also passed on his accomplices – the main assistant received 6.5 years in prison, two other defendants – six years and 2.5 years in prison, another defendant – a suspended sentence of two years and two months.
It was noted that Anvar Piriev did not admit his guilt in this episode.
Recall that in 2014-2015 there was a corporate conflict between Anvar Piriev and the founder of the Traveler’s Coffee chain Christopher Tara-Brown, as well as subsequently the foreign investors of the chain. As a result of the division of the network that followed, part of the coffee houses began to be managed by Anvar Piriev’s company (Travelers Coffee Moscow), and the remaining establishments were managed by the Novosibirsk Traveler’s Coffee, which represented the interests of foreign investors. The trademark of the network became the subject of further litigation between the former co-owners of the coffee houses. Continent Siberia previously wrote in detail about the development of the situation.
Anvar Piriyev was detained in 2018 in Moscow.
