The sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation in connection with the military operation in Ukraine “could kill the pharmaceutical market,” Znak.com told Znak.com to introduce the Zhivika pharmacy chain in Yekaterinburg. Now the chain’s pharmacies, by order of the company’s management, are creating a stock of goods for two months in order to try to contain price increases and “reduce the degree of panic among citizens” due to a shortage of goods.
“We can safely talk about the shortage of drugs. In recent weeks, medicines from the United States, France, and Germany, the market leaders in terms of quality and treatment results, have drastically disappeared. Mostly domestic preparations remained, which are inferior in quality. Even Russian drugs have always had foreign raw materials – many domestic drugs are made from imported components. What is happening now could kill the pharmaceutical market. If everything is closed, then nothing can be brought to us. Now the problem is that due to sanctions, drugs may simply not reach people, ”says a company representative.
According to him, the most severe shortage is drugs for heart disease, since they were mainly produced in the United States. There is also a shortage of hormonal and bronchial asthma medications.
According to the Federal State Statistics Service, in the Sverdlovsk region, diseases of the cardiovascular system in almost half of the cases cause death of citizens.
“All heart preparations were mostly foreign. This is not paracetamol, but a life-saving drug. If earlier it was possible to leave an individual application for drugs, now it is no longer possible. Now the problem is not so much in rising prices, but in the fact that there are no drugs. So far, growth is restrained, the same prices are in the application. There is stock. This is done for economic purposes. With a reserve, prices can be kept as low as possible. And in order not to sow panic among people, there are drugs for at least the next six months. Anyway, there is always hope that tomorrow will be better than today,” said a representative of the pharmacy network.
According to him, the last time the management of the network instructed to create a stock of drugs in 2014-2015, after the annexation of Crimea.
