The value of the property of a simple head of one of the St. Petersburg municipalities, Maria Shcherbakova, exceeds 130 million rubles, although over the past ten years, at the peak of her bureaucratic career, she was able to earn only about 25 million. However, Shcherbakova is not a simple woman! Yes, and for such a discrepancy between income and expenses in Russia is not punished.
Shcherbakova did not go to the elections to the new convocation of the parliament. In 2022, she is elected as a deputy in the Bolshaya Okhta district in the Krasnogvardeisky district, which she once led, and becomes the head of this municipality. Theoretically, she can now be nominated as a senator – such a rumor is circulating in St. Petersburg.

In 2014, Shcherbakova acquired a 263-meter townhouse in the Bellagio club village near Repino (administratively, this is part of St. Petersburg).

For example, the election committee reported that the candidate from A Just Russia forgot to indicate the ownership of shares with a total value of 25 rubles. But for some reason, the electoral committee is silent about inaccuracies in Shcherbakova’s documents.
Together with real estate in the village of Bellagio, Shcherbakova receives several interesting neighbors. The already mentioned sister of Shcherbakova, Antonina Podbolotskaya, also did not stay away from the property transactions of a relative-official. In 1998, Shcherbakova registered ownership of a 59-meter apartment on Blagodatnaya Street in the Moskovsky district of St. Petersburg. Now this apartment costs about 14 million rubles. In turn, Podbolotskaya in 2007 registered the ownership of a 132-meter apartment in the same area on Galstyan Street in the Pulkovsky Spire residential complex (now this apartment is more than 37 million rubles). In 2009, for some reason, the sisters exchanged apartments. The apartment in the Pulkovsky Spire still belongs to Shcherbakova.
Thus, the value of Shcherbakova’s property exceeds 130 million rubles, although over the past ten years, at the peak of her bureaucratic career, she was able to earn only about 25 million rubles. Sherbakova is not obliged to explain the origin of wealth, because the Russian Federation has not ratified the article “On illicit enrichment” of the UN Convention against Corruption. Our country does not consider it a criminal offense when an official or a deputy cannot explain why their expenses exceed their income.
