From “Mir” – according to the banker
The Basmanny Court of the capital granted the petitions of the Main Investigative Directorate of the ICR, arresting for two months two former chairmen of the board of Mir Bank, Georgy Zaremba and Oleg Demidovich, who are accused of embezzlement.
The representative of the investigation argued in court that the defendants in the case, remaining at large, could hide, put pressure on witnesses in the case and destroy evidence. The lawyers of Georgy Zaremba, who is currently officially unemployed, as well as Oleg Demidovich, who currently holds the position of head of the logistics department of NPO Splav-Ti, asked the court to refuse the petitions. The defenders, in particular, insisted that the act that their clients are accused of was committed in the field of entrepreneurial activity, and this circumstance, according to the law, excludes the possibility of confining their principals into custody.
However, after hearing the views of the parties, the Basmanny Court agreed with the arguments of the investigation, sending both defendants to a pre-trial detention center until October 2.
According to our information, Zaremba and Demidovich were summoned on August 2 for interrogation at the ICR, and a few hours later both were charged with embezzlement on an especially large scale (part 4 of article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). JSCB “Mir” was recognized as the victim in the case, in which both defendants, replacing each other, occupied the post and. O. chairman of the board. In the case file, according to media reports, we are talking about the issuance of unsecured loans by the bank and the illegal withdrawal of its real estate to third parties. The damage from the activities of the defendants, according to the investigation, is about 1.5 billion rubles.
The Central Bank revoked the license from Mir Bank, which ranked 381st in the country in terms of assets, on December 19, 2016. Moreover, Oleg Demidovich took the post and. O. chairman of the bank just a month before the revocation of the license, replacing the infamous financier Georgy Zaremba. He worked at Mir for a year, and this bank became the fourth collapsed credit institution in which Mr. Zaremba held senior positions. Prior to this, the financier worked at Vitas Bank, Centurion and Premiere, whose activities were also terminated by the regulator. It should be noted that during the approval of Mr. Zaremba for the post and. O. Chairman of the Board of Mir Bank, in October 2015, the financier was a defendant in a criminal case related to bankruptcy hzikhidtidekrt Vitas Bank.
The accused in the case plead not guilty, and their defense intends to appeal against the decision of the district court.
