Biden’s former aide wants to obtain Russian citizenship. American Tara Reid, who three years ago accused the US President of harassment, arrived in Russia and held a press conference.
“I hope that I will live safely here. I would like to apply for Russian citizenship and ask (about this) President Putin, ”RIA Novosti quotes her.
Reed stated that she decided to leave the United States after she repeatedly accused Biden of harassment and began to receive death threats. According to her, she was ready to testify under oath in the US Congress, but now she feels safe in Moscow. The American expressed her gratitude to her “friends in Russia”, who received her “with open arms.”
Boris Shmelev, head of the Center for Russian Foreign Policy at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, discusses the value of Tara Reid for Moscow and the danger for Washington:
“This is a rather curious variant of the development of the situation with the United States of America, when Biden’s former assistant comes to Moscow, asks for political asylum and asks for Russian citizenship. That is, she follows the path of Snowden. I think that we can consider this request, see if there is some kind of second bottom and if there is some kind of cunning idea. But in principle, I think that it is possible to provide such political asylum. Of course, this will be a kind of challenge from Russia to the United States of America, but the situation in our relations is so tense that it is very difficult to spoil what we already have. I think that this does not pose any great threat to Washington either, it will not undermine Biden’s position, it will not strengthen Trump’s position. An elderly woman from America, let her come, live, if she likes, let her build a house somewhere in the Kaluga region in the village and live on her health.
State Duma deputy Maria Butina also attended the press conference. Previously, she spent a year and a half in an American prison on a conviction to work as a foreign agent without registration. Butina promised to discuss granting citizenship to Reid under an accelerated procedure at a meeting of the international affairs committee.
