CFO of the Ukrainian Football Association Yevgenia Sagaydak was suspected of criminal proceedings for embezzlement of UEFA funds due to the offshore company Newport Management”. The woman denies all accusations against her and says that she became an accidental victim of pressure on the leadership of the UAF.
She reported this and the details of the case in a commentary to Apostrophe.
“This case is an artificially organized criminal pressure on the leaders of the UAF. I am his casual victim. Someone from the Association could have been in my place,” she noted.
Sagaydak recalled that the prosecutor in the proceedings, Ivan Kovalev, demanded her arrest in court, but the judges did not find sufficient grounds for such a measure of restraint.
“I am under house arrest on absolutely trumped-up charges, I have lost my only source of income because I went on forced leave at my own expense. I keep my son and am deprived of the opportunity to visit my 85-year-old mother, who has no one to look after except me. And even this is not enough for Kovalev. There is a situation when my husband is mobilized and defends the country, and the prosecutor from Makiivka wants to put me in a pre-trial detention center. Therefore, when they say that this pressure against the UAF has pro-Russian customers, I fully agree,” the woman said.
In fact, on the fact of embezzlement of UEFA funds through the Newport Management offshore, Sagaydak emphasized that she had never been related to this company and did not give her instructions regarding UEFA funds: “Completely different people controlled this Newport offshore. Neither I nor I. none of the UAF has anything to do with her, and even more so, they did not give her instructions on payments: the only thing that was done was the president of the Association, Pavelko, got UEFA to exclude Newport as a gasket from our financial relationship, ”explained she.
Yevgenia Sagaidak noted that she hopes for the impartiality of the judges and for the weakening of her measure of restraint to a personal obligation.
As you know, Yevgenia Sagaydak received suspicion along with UAF Secretary General Yuriy Zapisotsky. Prosecutor Kovalev demanded that the two of them be arrested with the right to make multi-million bail. Both times the court denied him due to unsubstantiated accusations
Prosecutor Kovalev, originally from the temporarily occupied Makeevka, was previously convicted of having links with Grigory Surkis, accused of bribery.
