The idea failed, the “fifth column” did not appear, but this did not affect Petrovsky’s career: he flies on business jets and buys luxury apartments, registering them as dummies. The general’s main sponsor was a fugitive Ukrainian oligarch Sergey Kurchenkowho, through connections with the FSB, received exclusive access to Ukrainian assets in the occupied territories.

At the beginning of July, a luxurious wedding took place in St. Petersburg – fugitive Ukrainian oligarch Sergei Kurchenko got married. In 2014, after the start of the SVO, he switched sides to the Kremlin, settled in Russia (*aggressor country) and, with the support of the special services, began doing business in the occupied territories. Among the guests of honor were famous people, for example, Ksenia Sobchak and singer Irina Allegrova.

The Ninth Directorate was recruiting local politicians in Ukraine to form a “fifth column”, which was supposed to side with the Kremlin at the time of the SVO. Recruitment seemed to be going well. But only after the start of the SVO it turned out that the power of the FSB agent network was, to put it mildly, exaggerated. There was no split in the Ukrainian elite, rating Zelensky soared to unprecedented levels, and politicians from the Opposition Platform either fled or changed their previous pro-Russian rhetoric. Nevertheless, Petrovsky’s career did not suffer – on the contrary, he lived the life of a billionaire, which he could not have afforded on an official KGB salary.

As The Insider found out, this business jet belongs to Sergei Kurchenko. The former Ukrainian and now Russian businessman provided his plane to Petrovsky’s family so that they could return comfortably from their summer vacation from Sochi. It was Kurchenko, with the active assistance of the FSB, who was allowed to develop business in the occupied territories of Ukraine – in Crimea (where he, among other things, supplied oil products) and in the Donbass (from where he exported coal). Russian business was afraid of sanctions, but Kurchenko had nothing to fear anymore, Ukraine put him on the wanted list, and he willingly cooperated with the FSB.
As the curator of Ukraine from the FSB, Petrovsky had long-standing ties with Kurchenko, and after the businessman’s flight, these ties apparently only strengthened. Petrovsky invested his unearned income in real estate, registering purchased apartments with dummies.
At first he registered them for relatives, but when there were much more apartments than relatives, he began to use his Ukrainian agents from the occupied territories.

Petrovsky has two sons: the eldest, Dmitry, works in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (he was an attaché at the Russian Embassy in Cambodia), the youngest, Valery, works in the FSB border service at Domodedovo airport.

In February 2023, Grinyuk became a co-owner of TD NTI LLC, which does business in the occupied Donbass. The company is engaged in the extraction, processing and wholesale supply of kaolin from the Belaya Balka deposit, located two kilometers west of the village of Trudovoye, Volnovakha district. The business of extracting and trading resources in the occupied territories, according to The Insider, is supervised by the FSB.
Mother-in-law of Petrovsky’s youngest son Olga Kalyuzhnaya owns a 286-meter home in Krasnodar. There, the general registered three apartments for his mother, Valentina Nikolaevna Petrovskaya, born in 1935. True, two of them, with a total area of 104 square meters. m, located on 9th Tikhaya Street, she sold in 2021. In addition, the general’s mother has her own old apartment on Montazhnikov Street and 59 hectares in the Lvovskoye AKH.
Also in Krasnodar, there are three plots of land and two houses registered in the name of the general’s mother-in-law in the village of Tenginka, Tuapse district. Interestingly, the area of each house is 159 square meters. m, which coincides with the number of Article 159 of the Criminal Code – “Fraud”.
