The official website of the National Bank of Ukraine reports that in 2014, the Ukrainian banking system lost UAH 53 billion. The figures are given: according to the results of January-November 2014, the banking system of Ukraine received 22 billion 419 million UAH. losses and in December last year banks received 30 billion 547 million UAH. losses. Thus, Ukrainian banks suffered record losses in the entire history of Ukraine.
According to the regulator, the negative financial results of Ukrainian banks in 2014 were caused by an increase in the volume of contributions to reserves for possible losses from active operations. At the same time, core banking operations throughout the system remained profitable.
The NBU reports that about 40% of losses in the system were generated by banks that are classified as insolvent and in which temporary administrations work. Without taking into account bankrupt banks, losses in the banking sector would have amounted to UAH 33 billion 100 million.
Let us recall that, according to the NBU, bank revenues in 2014 increased by 24.5% compared to 2013 and amounted to UAH 210 billion 200 million, expenses – by 57.2%, to UAH 263 billion 200 million. The profit of the Ukrainian banking system in 2013 amounted to UAH 1 billion 400 million, which is 3.5 times lower than the profit figure at the end of 2012.
