As it became known to Kommersant, the Borovichi District Court of the Novgorod Region arrested Ilya Biryukov, a member of the public chamber of the Moscow Region, chairman of the public organization Active Resident of the Moscow Region. The preventive measure was chosen as part of a criminal case on attempted illegal sale and shipment of narcotic drugs. According to preliminary data, the public figure is cooperating with the investigation.
According to a Kommersant source in law enforcement agencies, a 30-year-old member of the public chamber of the Moscow Region, a resident of Elektrostal, Ilya Biryukov, came to the attention of employees of the Main Directorate for Drug Control (GUNK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation at the end of May. Then the operatives received information that the social activist received a message from his counterparty via the “darknet” about a cache in which “a little more than 3 kg of goods are waiting” for sale.
According to sources, on May 30, Mr. Biryukov, in his VAZ-2121, left Moscow for the area of the village of Koegoshcha, located 5 km from the city of Borovichi, Novgorod Region. There was a cache with three polymer bundles, in which there was methylephedron.
Having followed Ilya Biryukov, detectives from the 8th department of the UNK Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Novgorod region made sure that he had taken the goods, after which an arrest operation was carried out. On May 31 at 14:00, when the public figure was returning to Moscow, the local traffic police on the route between the village of Koegoshcha and Borovichi stopped Ilya Biryukov’s Niva to check documents. After inspecting the car, the patrol officers found drugs and made a corresponding report. The drug police arrived and took Ilya Biryukov to the local police station.
A criminal case was initiated against Ilya Biryukov under Part 3 of Art. 30 and part 5 of Art. 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted illegal production, sale or shipment of drugs on an especially large scale). Under this article, you can get up to 20 years in prison.
After the charges were brought, Ilya Biryukov was taken to the Borovichi District Court, which, at the request of the local police investigation department, chose the detainee as a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of two months.
According to Kommersant’s sources, Ilya Biryukov did not deny it and began to cooperate with the investigation. Thanks to this, law enforcement officers managed to detain a drug dealer in the Kaliningrad region. He was contacted via the “darknet” and offered to sell part of the goods confiscated from Biryukov. Having agreed on the amount of the drug and the method of its delivery, the law enforcement officers packed about 2 kg of methylephedron into boxes with hydraulic accumulators, which they placed in a truck with a driver and transported from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad by ferry. The final destination of the truck’s route was the village of Nevskoye, located about 160 km from the regional center. There, upon receipt of the cargo, the dealer was detained.
It was not possible to get an operational comment in the Public Chamber of the Moscow Region: Kommersant’s interlocutors referred to the fact that they did not have information about the situation with Ilya Biryukov.
