On July 19, Ivan Bakanov was fired from the post of head of the SBU. On July 17, Bakanov, together with Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova, was removed from office. President Volodymyr Zelensky explained this by a large number of criminal proceedings on treason and collaborationism among law enforcement officials
Censor.NET editor-in-chief Yuriy Butusov stated in an interview with Radio NV that after the start of the war, it turned out that the top leadership of the SBU were Russian agents, and President Volodymyr Zelensky had to explain why he appointed them.
“We need so that the authorities begin to honestly bear responsibility for why Russian agents were appointed to the highest positions in the Ukrainian special services, in intelligence. Some of them have already been arrested and are accused of high treason,” Butusov said in an interview with Radio NV.
He emphasized that an investigation is necessary “for us to determine whether these are the only Russian agents who were in power, or perhaps there are others” and this investigation should be under parliamentary control.
On July 17, Oleg Kulinich, an adviser to the head of the SBU, was detained in Kyiv, he is suspected of treason
Kulinich through Bakanov employed a whole network of Russian agents. Zelenskiy had a fit of rage when he found out
“It should start with the authorities admitting their mistakes, that, for example, three heads of the SBU department in key areas are under investigation, two are in a pre-trial detention center on charges of high treason, one has an assistant in a pre-trial detention center on charges of high treason, and he himself he is a defendant in the case. The first deputy head of the SBU also turned out to be a Russian agent and fled the country with money before the war,” the journalist said, confirming that he was talking about Andrey Naumov, the former head of the Main Department of Internal Security of the SBU, who was detained in Serbia.
The leadership of the SBU was agents of the Russian Federation
Butusov noted that in Ukraine, four top leaders of the SBU and the fifth, the head of the SBU, Ivan Bakanov, were removed from their posts due to the fact that their actions caused heavy losses to our defense capability.
“Two of them have already been charged with treason. And theoretically they can be brought against everyone, because they all acted together, that is, this is a whole organized criminal group. This is not my guess, this is not what I told the president at a press conference a year ago in front of everyone, these are already materials from the work of the State Bureau of Investigation, ”the journalist said.
According to him, in any democratic country, such a situation would cause a scandal.
“Everyone would talk about it all the time. The entire top leadership of the SBU turned out to be Russian agents. … All this should simply be destroyed, there should be a criminal case against all the defendants,” Butusov expressed confidence.
He also drew attention to the fact that President Volodymyr Zelensky still evades answers, although “he should be the first to testify in the prosecutor's office, explain: why did he appoint Russian agents by his decrees?”.
“For example, in 2020 Zelensky appointed General [Oleg] Kulinich as the head of the SBU of Crimea, who actually worked and served in the FSB of the Russian Federation. This was known. This is a direct violation of the law on lustration, deliberately done by the president. He must explain it. Perhaps he still has unsuccessful appointments that continue to work for the aggressor country,” the journalist reminded.
On July 17, Volodymyr Zelensky removed Ivan Bakanov, head of the SBU, from his duties. The decree said that he was suspended from duty in accordance with Art. 47 of the Disciplinary Charter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – that is, for “failure to perform (improper performance) of official duties, which caused loss of life or other grave consequences, or created a threat of such consequences.”
On July 19, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Bakanov from the post of head of the SBU.
This was preceded by the detention by the SBI of the former head of the SBU in Crimea Oleg Kulinich. According to the investigation, Kulinich gave the Russians information constituting a state secret.
Kulinich served as head of the SBU department in Crimea from October 2020 to March 2022. “This person was dismissed by me from his position at the beginning of a full-scale invasion, and, as you can see, this decision was absolutely justified,” Zelensky said in a televised address. “Sufficient evidence has been collected to inform this person of suspicion of treason. All of his criminal actions are documented.”
As Schemes reported, Andrey Naumov began working for the SBU after Ivan Bakanov became its head in 2019, and led the department of internal security of the special service. He held the post until July 2021.
According to journalists, Naumov, accompanied by several people, left Ukraine on February 23, and in March several of his addresses were searched in connection with the treason case. On March 31, President Volodymyr Zelensky stripped Naumov of the rank of brigadier general.
According to the Schemes, Naumov could pass secret data on the security system of the Chernobyl exclusion zone to the Russian special services.

P.S.: The situation with the current acting Chairman Maluk is no better. His return to the SBU after his dismissal due to discredit, further formation in the SBU, career growth, etc. is the result of the personnel policy of Bakanov-Naumov with subsequent reorientation along Tatarov-Yermak, who are also reasonably suspected of being involved in the activities of the Russian special services in Ukraine.</p
General Naumov is a traitor and a thief. Senior Lieutenant Bakanov – well done?
