Nancy Pelosi leaves Taiwan
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, which led to an open conflict between Washington and Beijing, has ended, her plane is preparing to take off from Taipei airport.
Against the background of Pelosi’s visit, the People’s Liberation Army of China launched a series of military operations and exercises off the coast of Taiwan.
As Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted, China is ready to peacefully coexist and develop together with other countries, but will not allow anyone to undermine stability. He added that the reunification of China with Taiwan is a historical inevitability. China also allowed a strike on military installations in Taiwan after Pelosi’s visit.
Recall that this is the first visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives to the island since 1997, which caused an extremely harsh reaction from China and led to a sharp increase in tensions between China and the United States. After all, Beijing considers Taiwan its territory, albeit uncontrolled at the moment. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan seriously violates the “one China” principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US communiqués. The ministry added that China will respond to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan with “every possible countermeasure.”
China also warned German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock about the “consequences of reckless statements on Taiwan that do not correspond to the facts.” Earlier, Burbock promised Taiwan support in the event of Chinese aggression.
