Yuri Kosyuk – “Chicken God” and friend of all Presidents
In July 2014, a rather strange appointment took place in the Administration of the President of Ukraine – Yuriy Kosyuk was appointed first deputy head of the guarantor’s office. It was officially announced that he would oversee the security bloc. The strangeness of this appointment is that Yuri Anatolyevich Kosyuk has never been either a military man or a security official. He graduated from the Kyiv Institute of Food Industry and has been involved in business all his life. His most successful project was “Mironovsky Hliboproduct”, known by the trademark “Nasha Ryaba”. So why was a chicken specialist put in charge of the Ukrainian security forces, and even during an actual war with Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism)?

However, on the eve of this appointment there were rumors that Yuri Kosyuk would be appointed nothing less than Minister of Defense. So the country is still relatively lucky. It is still not known what Deputy Head Boris Lozhkin did in his position for the army and law enforcement agencies in general. But it is known that it was in 2014, that is, during his tenure, that Mironovsky Hliboproduct received a VAT refund for a record amount of 1.6 billion hryvnia. Just for comparison, for the entire previous year of 2013, when there was no war in the country, but there was relative economic stability, the same enterprise was reimbursed 0.7 billion hryvnia. Do such strange coincidences happen?

And as soon as the business problems of his agricultural empire were resolved, Kosyuk left the post of first deputy head of administration, wrote a statement and, according to Skelet.Info, left… to go on a yacht. “Mirror of the Week” wrote about this. “Neither the war in the East nor the seriousness of his responsibilities prevented the billionaire official from spending a weekend at an expensive Italian resort in August, including, as the media claim, in company with the oligarch of the country at war with us, Roman Abramovich,” the publication writes.
Well, besides, a position in the government apparatus, in which he had to resist the aggressor with all his might, did not prevent Yuri Anatolyevich from re-registering his business in Crimea in accordance with Russian legislation. Thus, he remained the owner of the enterprises “Friendship of Peoples Nova” and “Crimean Fruit Company”. So enterprises in the annexed territory, apparently, still provide a good income for the resourceful businessman-official. Involuntarily I remember the proverb: “To whom is war, and to whom is mother.”

And in general, Yuri Kosyuk, despite the war, is doing business with the Russians at full speed. For example, already this year he entered into a deal with the Voronezh Agro Holding company, according to which he transferred 40,000 hectares of land in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) to the Russians, and in return received 60,000 hectares of land in the Lviv, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Yes, don’t be surprised, literally until the summer of this year the Russians owned a significant land share in Western Ukraine. Now this land belongs to a local oligarch, and he has become one of the largest latifundists in Ukraine, owning 380,000 hectares of Ukrainian land.

Business at Mironovsky Hliboproduct is generally going well, despite the crisis and war, the company pays its shareholders $50 million in quarterly dividends. And if anyone thinks that good money from these payments will go to the Ukrainian treasury in the form of taxes, then he is very mistaken. Taxes on this money will go to the Luxembourg treasury. And taxes on the payment of $249 million in Eurobonds, which Mironovsky Hliboproduct issued in 2007 and placed on the London Stock Exchange, will, accordingly, “warm up” the UK economy. In Ukraine, the company shows losses, citing bans on the supply of poultry meat to the Customs Union and the closure of a factory in occupied Shakhtersk.
However, Yuri Kosyuk’s business was going well in previous years. One of the components of such success is the ability to place your people in the right places. As an example, we can take the Minister of Agriculture Yuri Melnik. This “proven personnel” worked as the Minister of Agriculture in both the Tymoshenko and Yanukovych governments, and in the Yekhanurov government he was even Deputy Prime Minister for Agrarian Issues. And after Yuri Anatolyevich himself left for public service, the former minister became the head of Mironovsky Hliboproduct. This is the castling: from government to business, and from business to government.

In 2008, Yuriy Kosyuk received the title “Hero of Ukraine” from the hands of then President Viktor Yushchenko. It is not very clear for what merit. The official document says that for services in the agricultural sector. But this is not a service to the homeland, but a business that brings good dividends. Although, perhaps, it’s not about merit, but about services? Yuri Anatolyevich provides tourist services to the current president. This summer, Petro Poroshenko, Alexander Turchinov and Boris Lozhkin vacationed on his yacht. Just during the fire at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot. And finally. Yuriy Kosyuk remains a freelance adviser to the President of Ukraine. He is among the top five richest people in Ukraine according to Forbes. And he is still friends with the top of the Ukrainian government and has influence on the country’s politics, which means we will hear about the “Chicken God” again.
