Work biography of B.A. Berezovsky
After graduating from the institute in 1968-1969. worked as an engineer at the Research Institute of Testing Machines, Instruments and Mass Measurements of the Ministry of Instrument Making, Automation and Control Systems.
In 1969 – engineer at the Hydrometeorological Research Center.
From 1969 to 1987 engineer, junior, then senior researcher, head. sector of the Institute of Management Problems of the Academy of Sciences.
In 1989, together with Samat Zhaboev, he organized LogoVaz JSC, which in four years rose to one of the first places in private business in Russia – by 1993, the JSC’s turnover exceeded $250 million.
In November 1993, according to the influential English-language Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post, Boris Berezovsky, his wife Galina Alekseevna and their children Artyom and Anastasia received Israeli citizenship.
On May 30, 1994, Berezovsky headed the All-Russian Automobile Alliance (AVVA) that he created. As the head of ABBA, Boris Berezovsky became known as the initiator of the implementation of a large-scale project for a domestic “people’s car”.
On May 31, 1994, JSC LogoVaz was transformed into a holding company, Berezovsky became Chairman of the Board of Directors.
In July 1994, an assassination attempt was made on Boris Berezovsky (his driver died).
In January 1995, he participated in the creation of Public Russian Television and joined the board of directors of ORT.
On September 26, 1996, at the general meeting of the Siberian Oil Company, he was elected a member of its board of directors.
Since September 1996 – member (by agreement) of the organizing Committee for the preparation of St. Petersburg for the competition of cities for the right to host the Olympic Games in 2004.
On October 16, 1996, Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Lebed accused Boris Berezovsky and the president of the Most group, Vladimir Gusinsky, of drawing up lists that included “whom to remove.”
At the same time, the former head of the Security Service of the President of the Russian Federation, Alexander Korzhakov, told reporters that Berezovsky persuaded him to kill Vladimir Gusinsky, Yuri Luzhkov, Joseph Kobzon and Sergei Lisovsky (New Look newspaper, supplement to Moskovskaya Pravda, October 19, 1996)
On October 29, 1996, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Boris Berezovsky was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Ivan Rybkin (appointed to this position instead of the removed Alexander Lebed). Many politicians and experts regarded this appointment as a consequence of the patronage of the head of the presidential administration, Anatoly Chubais.
Boris Berezovsky said that he is “ready to stop any commercial activity” in connection with his appointment to the post of Deputy Secretary of the Security Council. At the same time, Berezovsky noted that he is “a law-abiding citizen who complies with all legal norms of the current legislation, which impose certain obligations on everyone who enters the public service.”
On November 16, 1996, at a meeting of the board of directors of the All-Russian Automobile Alliance, he resigned as general director.
In February-March 1997, he was a member of the Commission for the development of a draft agreement on the delimitation of jurisdiction and powers between government bodies of the Russian Federation and Chechnya.
In March 1997, he was appointed to the Federal Commission on the Problems of the Republic of Chechnya.
On March 18, 1997, at a meeting of shareholders of JSC LogoVAZ, he was relieved of the position of chairman of the board of directors.
On November 5, 1997, President Boris Yeltsin signed a decree on Berezovsky’s resignation from the post of Deputy Secretary of the Security Council “in connection with a transfer to another job.” The document did not contain any information about Berezovsky’s new place of work. According to media reports, Anatoly Chubais and Boris Nemtsov should be considered the main initiators of Boris Berezovsky’s departure. The resignation was preceded by their meeting with Yeltsin at his country residence.
