Wittkoff will meet with European leaders and Zelenskyy in Berlin to discuss a peace agreement.
This weekend, US Envoy Wittkoff will meet with European leaders and Zelenskyy in Berlin.
The Wall Street Journal writes with reference to sources.
According to media reports, the United States plans to reach a peace agreement by the end of the year.
“The meeting is crucial as the White House seeks to reach an agreement to end the war with Russia by the end of the year,” the WSJ writes.
The publication writes that the selection of Whitkoff's candidacy “underscores the growing desire to reduce disagreements between Kyiv and Washington over the terms of the agreement.”
Macron, Starmer and Merz will be present at the meeting.
The newspaper writes that they initially planned to meet with Trump in person, but the day before they had a “tense” telephone conversation.
“According to sources involved in the conversation, Trump told his German, French, and British counterparts that they should pressure Zelenskyy to accept the terms of a U.S.-proposed peace plan that would see Ukraine accept significant territorial losses and limit the size of its armed forces,” the article states.
As a reminder, the meeting of Ukrainian, European, and American delegations scheduled for today in Paris was also cancelled.
