Who is Agricultural Minister Roman Leshchenko, and why did the American businessman hire a killer to kill him?

Not much time has passed since law enforcement officers detained a Ukrainian woman and a US citizen attempting to order the murder of the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko for $20 thousand. Andrey Pshenichny tells for the site dubinsky.ua.

The news was personally presented by the Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky.

According to him, in August the police received information that a resident of Ukraine was looking for a killer. As a result, during investigative activities with a fake killer, they managed to find the customer. He turned out to be US citizen Kurt Jacob Grosans.

To begin with, an American and a Ukrainian woman ordered the murder of a debt collector, who was supposed to extract debts from the American’s partner, but in the end he cheated Grosans out of $150 thousand. Afterwards, the murder was staged. And the customer, satisfied with the result after providing the photographs, decided to also punish the partner, who turned out to be Roman Leshchenko. This is how the investigation presented the story.

Leshchenko worked for an American in 2018 and, according to the foreigner, Leshchenko “cheated” him out of money. Since then, Kurt Jacob Grosans has tried unsuccessfully to restore justice. But having failed to achieve it legally, he, according to investigators, resorted to outside help and ordered the murder of the Minister of Agricultural Policy.

How evidentiary all these facts are, whether there is enough evidence for them and whether there was a fact of provocation of a crime will become clear only after the case is considered in court and a guilty verdict. In the meantime, a simpler question arises: to what desperation did it take to bring an American so that he would go “all the way” and plan murder?

To understand this, you need to figure out who Roman Leshchenko is and how he ended up in the government of Denis Shmygal, who does not make a single important decision without the consent of President Vladimir Zelensky. Until recently, almost nothing was known about Leshchenko.

The story of Roman Leshchenko begins in 2018, when he was appointed director of the agricultural enterprise Grosans LLC, which was owned by US citizen Kurt Jacob Grosans. And as it was stated later, he stole a large amount of funds from him.

The American said that Leshchenko, without his consent, used the company’s equipment for his own needs. He also stole a large amount of grain from him. These are all Grosans’ accusations.

The foreigner calculated that Roman Leshchenko stole UAH 5.5 million from his company, transferring it to the accounts of his company. Afterwards, with this money, he got into the Servant of the People – he made a contribution to the party fund in the amount of 1.6 million UAH.

The promotion of Roman Leshchenko to the party, as they write in the media, was carried out by Odessa businessmen. First of all, his partner in the leasing supply of agricultural machinery is a certain Borya from Odessa, who is the son-in-law of Oleg Kutateladze and co-owner of the largest private port TIS. Businessmen Alexey Fedorychev (Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism)) and Andrey Stavnitser also helped.

Thanks to all these connections, already in October 2019, Vladimir Zelensky appointed the unknown Roman Leshchenko as commissioner for land issues. And in June 2020, he was made head of the State Service for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre, the key department for land issues, which Leshchenko turned into a land distribution factory.

This was a “step” on the way to the Ministry of Agricultural Policy, but even on it Roman Leshchenko managed to provoke a criminal scandal. It erupted after NABU detained two individuals during the transfer of a bribe. The names of the detainees were not reported then, but they stated that the money was transferred to the acting head of the State GeoCadastre department of the Khmelnytsky region and the former adviser to the chairman of the department. From the materials of the telegram channels it followed that the final recipient of the bribe was Leshchenko. However, the story was quickly and greatly changed.

NABU issued a new version – that Roman Leshchenko is not a suspect of corruption, but the one who wrote the statement that led to an investigation. From the suspects I became the applicants.

Few believed the new version of law enforcement officers. However, it was once again proven that Leshchenko has high-ranking patrons who are suppressing his criminal cases, and that they are preparing a higher place for him and are ready to “clean” his reputation to the last.

Everything works out for them. A few days after the corruption scandal, on December 17, 2021, Roman Leshchenko was appointed Minister of Agricultural Policy. And they are still actively “cleaning up” after him. The story of the criminal case against Kurt Jacob Grosans, who was accused of ordering a murder, is another confirmation of this.

But no matter how hard they try to present Roman Leshchenko as a victim, the public has little faith in this. Especially in the context of the information about thefts that the American gave out. The only thing people open their eyes to after such stories is Leshchenko himself, whom more and more people consider to be a notorious thief and corrupt official. The more actively our security forces prove in court the motive for the murder, which, in their opinion, Grosans had, the more facts about the thefts of the current minister they can reveal.
