“By a court verdict, the ex-head of the administration of the Kuitun urban settlement was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 8 years, a fine in the amount of 1.89 million rubles, and deprivation of the right to hold positions in local governments for a term of 6 years,” the message says.
The court also notes that the ex-mayor will begin serving his sentence only in December 2034, when her child reaches the age of 14. As Kommersant was told in the regional prosecutor’s office, the state prosecution requested a real punishment for the defendant, without delay. The department adds that “the decision to appeal will be made after receiving and studying the text of the verdict.”
As previously reported, the case of Albina Khomich was brought to court in November 2021. According to investigators, in 2018 the head of the urban settlement received a bribe in the form of a one-room apartment from a developer who built houses for orphans in Kuitun. After that, she issued a permit for the commissioning of two houses, despite the lack of a landscaped house area and other construction shortcomings. The damage to the regional budget amounted to 6.9 million rubles.
Albina Khomich is the champion of Russia, Europe and the world in weightlifting. In 2017, she won the election for the post of head of Kuytun, being a candidate from United Russia. In 2018, she voluntarily left this post due to misuse of budget funds. In 2019, during an inspection by the regional prosecutor’s office of a developer of houses for orphans, a criminal case was initiated against Albina Khomich related to abuse of power. She has been under house arrest since June 2021.
