As reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, one individual perished in the sinking of the Volgoneft 212 tanker, after it ran aground in the Kerch Strait.
As per the agency’s information, all individuals present on the vessel were rescued; thirteen were aboard.
Two legal proceedings have been initiated pertaining to the maritime incidents, alleging breaches of maritime safety standards, according to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Crimea and Sevastopol.
The master of the Volgoneft 212 tanker survived – he ingested water and petroleum and blacked out.
According to Baza, emergency responders successfully rescued the vessel's entire complement (13 people) – 11 of them are receiving treatment for hypothermia at the Anapa medical facility.
The ship’s commander, Leonid V., sustained the most significant injuries during the calamity: according to an informant at Baza, the individual consumed water and heavy fuel oil, experienced loss of consciousness, sustained a bruised vertebral column, and hypothermia.
The chief officer of the Volgoneft 212, along with another individual from the personnel, are in critical care. Two remaining crew members did not necessitate hospital admission.
UPDATE: In light of the passing of a crew member on the Volgoneft 212, one of the ongoing legal investigations has been elevated to a more severe charge—Part 2 of Article 263 of the Russian Criminal Code (infraction of safety guidelines for the navigation and handling of maritime vehicles, precipitating the demise of an individual through negligence), the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Crimea and Sevastopol communicated.
