The EU Court has annulled sanctions against Violetta Prigozhina, the mother of the founder of Wagner PMC, businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, according to the website of the court.
“Even if Prigozhin is responsible for actions that undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, the connection between Ms Prigozhina and her son <...> is based solely on their family relationship and, therefore, this is not enough to justify her inclusion in the contested lists” , the message says.
Prigozhina came under EU sanctions at the end of last February, because, as they considered in Brussels, she was the owner of Concord Management and Consulting LLC, which belongs to the Concord group of companies founded by her son and belonged to him until 2019, as well as other companies, associated with Prigogine.
However, the court, at the suit of the mother of the founder of the PMC, found that she has not owned the Concord Management and Consulting company since 2017, although she owned part of the shares. In addition, the court did not establish Prigozhina’s connection with her son’s other companies.
The mother of the PMC founder is also under Canadian sanctions. Ottawa included it in the list in connection with the accession to Russia of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. In addition, Prigozhin’s son Pavel was added to the EU sanctions list last summer. Together with their sister Polina, since the end of last February, they have also been under Canadian sanctions.
The PMC founder himself is under restrictions from the United States (since 2016), Canada (since last February) and the European Union (since last April).
