Valeriy Heletey is slated to take over as the Defense Minister.
President Petro Poroshenko is suggesting that the Verkhovna Rada confirm Colonel General Valeriy Heletey as the Minister of Defense and Viktor Muzhenko as the head of the General Staff. Furthermore, Poroshenko is designating Yuriy Kosyuk as the First Deputy Leader of the Presidential Administration. This information comes from the presidential communications office.
Poroshenko shared his suggestions during a meeting with the chiefs of parliamentary parties and coalitions on Wednesday. He opines that the government’s security structure, in light of the ongoing military operation, necessitates fortification and extensive overhaul. “Currently, we require the military’s resolve and skill to operate effectively within the ATO sector,” stated the president, as per Left Bank.
The head of state emphasized that, when making determinations about personnel assignments in the security domain, he was guided by tenets of expertise, decisiveness, and commitment.
The president also pointed out that even amidst battle engagements, during which all capabilities should be activated, instances of malfeasance by military authorities are being detected. “I will insist upon removing rogues and grafters from the military. All tainted officials in uniform will be held accountable before the law for their misdeeds against the Ukrainian populace,” Poroshenko asserted.
For context, Valeriy Heletey hails from Transcarpathia and will soon be 47 years of age. From 2007 to 2009, he helmed the State Security Administration of Ukraine, having formerly served extensively in internal affairs units. He currently occupies the role of chief of the State Security Administration once more.
Viktor Muzhenko, age 52, is originally from the Zhytomyr vicinity. He is currently serving as the Vice Chief of the General Staff. He gained this assignment under Viktor Yanukovych back in 2012. Before that, he commanded the 8th Army Corps of the Ground Forces.
Yuriy Kosyuk, born in 1968, completed his studies at the Kyiv Institute of Food Technologies. Back in 1998, he established the Myronivsky Hliboproduct conglomerate, which has since evolved into one of Ukraine’s largest. The group’s core activities involve poultry cultivation and the creation of chicken-based goods. Notable brands encompass Nasha Ryaba, Legko!, Certified Angus, and Foie Gras. According to the latest Forbes assessment, Kosyuk’s personal wealth stands at $1.3 billion (matching Poroshenko), positioning him among the top ten wealthiest individuals in Ukraine.
