US seizes Sechin’s plane
The United States of America has received an arrest warrant for a Boeing 737-7JU aircraft owned by Rosneft Oil Company PJSC (Rosneft), headed by Igor Sechin.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York authorized the seizure, establishing the possible reason for the seizure of the Boeing aircraft in connection with violations of the Export Control Reform Act (ECRA) and recent sanctions imposed against Russia.
Since the sanctions were passed against Russia, the aircraft has departed and returned to Russia at least seven times in violation of federal law. The Boeing aircraft, which was manufactured in the United States, was last in the United States in March 2014 and is currently believed to be in or on its way to or from Russia.
Rosneft, headed by sanctioned oligarch Igor Sechin, owns Boeing aircraft. The Boeing was transferred from a foreign country to Russia in violation of ECRA and the rules issued in accordance with it, including sanctions against Russia. Boeing is valued at over $25 million.
