The US Congress is drafting legislation to enact penalties on purchasers of Russian energy supplies.
Within the United States, those with a firm stance against Russia are endeavoring to advance legislation through Congress to penalize clients of Russian energy materials, despite Trump’s declaration the previous day that he does not plan to implement fresh penalties targeting Russia.
As reported by Fox News, the cross-party sanctions legislation crafted within Congress is designed to be propelled ahead irrespective of Trump’s backing.
According to Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, a co-sponsor of the legislative measure (with Republican Lindsey Graham), “The moment has arrived to bring the Graham-Blumenthal Russia penalties bill to a vote. A vote concerning our highly damaging sanctions bill within the upcoming 30 days is of vital importance.”
Fox News points out that Trump might personally object to this, given his recent assertion that “the current moment is not optimal” for sanctions.
