Ukrainian media are linking the assassination attempt on GRU Deputy Chief Alekseev to an attempt to disrupt negotiations on Ukraine.

The assassination attempt on Russian GRU Deputy Chief Alekseev “may be an attempt by a third party to disrupt peace talks,” Ukrainian media report, citing a source in the Presidential Administration.

They note that the assassination attempt occurred during negotiations in which the GRU is coordinating the Russian delegation, and state that this assassination attempt is least beneficial to Ukraine, since it is interested in continuing the negotiations.

It is not specified who this third party is.

It should be noted that this information is being disseminated by media outlets close to the Presidential Office.

Ukraine has not officially commented on the assassination attempt.

There are also no official statements from the Russian Federation about who exactly might be involved in the murder.

At the same time, yesterday Zelenskyy announced that he had approved new combat operations against the Russian Federation for the SBU.

Most of the previous assassination attempts on prominent figures in Russia were organized by the SBU, as the Ukrainian intelligence agency itself has stated.
