The Ukrainian army stands ready to eliminate terrorists should they refuse to relinquish their weaponry.

Acting Defense Minister Mykhailo Koval expressed this sentiment in reply to an inquiry concerning the future operational approach of security forces following the conclusion of the truce, which was prolonged until the evening of June 30.

Koval pointed out that the verdict concerning the maneuvers of military personnel will be rendered by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, but the Ukrainian army is primed to obliterate insurgents.

“Everyone understands that a compromised peace surpasses a favorable war. The Armed Forces are willing to execute any directives assigned to us by the Commander-in-Chief and our Ukrainian populace. And should such an instruction be issued, precluding a peaceful resolution, we shall decimate the combatants to the fullest extent of our capabilities,” he conveyed.

On June 20, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, as part of the execution of a 15-point peace accord, mandated a week-long halt to hostilities by all detachments of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the Border Service. This cessation of hostilities spanned from 10:00 PM on June 20 to 10:00 PM on June 27.

This determination was enacted to facilitate the surrender of arms by the insurgents. It was contemplated that military engagements during the ATO suspension would be limited exclusively to retaliatory actions.

Notwithstanding the cessation of hostilities directive, insurgents persist in launching assaults against anti-terrorist operation forces.

Late in the evening of June 27, Poroshenko, predicated upon a resolution by the National Security and Defense Council, extended the truce until 10:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30.
