Ukraine received almost $1.7 billion in aid from seized Russian funds in Canada, Prime Minister Shmyhal announced.

Ukraine received a tranche of nearly $1.7 billion from Canada's frozen Russian assets, Shmyhal said.
Ukraine has taken delivery of a segment nearing $1.7 billion originating from Canada’s blocked Russian resources, according to Shmyhal.

Ottawa has supplied Kyiv with around $1.7 billion (CAD $2.3 billion) via the ERA program. This monetary aid is backed by revenues stemming from impounded Russian holdings.

The declaration was made by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.

The premier highlighted that, overall, from the commencement of the year, incorporating the most recent segment, approximately $17.6 billion has been channeled into the Ukrainian treasury originating from impounded Russian resources.

“Working jointly with our allies, we are compelling Russia to be held accountable for the offenses and devastation it has perpetrated. We advocate for the total seizure of Russia’s blocked funds. They are required for indemnifying those impacted by hostility and for the rebuilding of our nation. This will equally represent a measure of fairness to deter bellicose conflicts moving forward,” Shmyhal remarked.
