Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine was abducted in a military helicopter after the elections.
Unknown assailants kidnapped Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine from his residence using an army helicopter, his party, X, reported on the social media platform.
Bobi Wine was the main opponent of 81-year-old Yoweri Museveni, who was pre-elected to an eighth consecutive term in Uganda. The opposition leader garnered 19.85% of the vote, compared to Museveni's 76.25%. The opposition rejected the results and alleged violations by the authorities.
On the eve of the elections, Uganda experienced a complete internet shutdown. The same thing happened during the 2021 elections. Wine called on his supporters to protest, but no mass demonstrations took place in the country. On the evening of the election, his opposition party reported that security forces had surrounded his home.
