Trump threatens tariffs on countries supplying oil to Cuba, declaring an “extraordinary threat” from Havana
Trump threatened tariffs on countries supplying oil to Cuba.
The presidential decree states that “the policies, practices, and actions of the Government of Cuba constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat.” It also accuses Havana of hosting “dangerous adversaries of the United States.”
Duties may apply to states that “directly or indirectly sell or otherwise provide any petroleum to Cuba.”
As a reminder, the US previously launched an oil blockade against Venezuela, which resulted in the kidnapping of its president, Maduro.
The media does not rule out that a similar method (a naval blockade followed by forceful actions) could be used to change power in Cuba.
