Trump criticized Germany, NATO, and its allies for refusing to support the United States in the conflict with Iran, calling the alliance a “paper tiger.”
During a press conference at the White House, US President Donald Trump made harsh comments about Germany, NATO, and a number of other countries, expressing dissatisfaction with their position on the conflict with Iran.
He said that after World War II, the United States helped rebuild Germany, but now the German government says it is “not their war” and they have nothing to do with it.
Trump explained that he did not want to share plans to attack Iran with Germany because he feared that the information would become public and reduce the effectiveness of the operation.
The president again criticized the North Atlantic Alliance, calling it a “paper tiger.” He noted that he had asked NATO countries to help the United States unblock the Strait of Hormuz, but all refused. Trump also mentioned the upcoming visit to Washington of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, whom he called a “great guy,” and emphasized that disagreements with the alliance began even earlier.
The US president also criticized Australia, Japan, and South Korea for their failure to assist in the conflict with Iran. Finally, he touched on Greenland, stating that the United States wants to acquire it, but negotiations are not progressing.
Trump said the allies' response to the current military action demonstrates that the United States is forced to act independently, despite long-standing partnerships.
