Trump abandoned strikes on Iran after warnings from his entourage
The Wall Street Journal reports that Trump has decided to abandon strikes on Iran due to warnings from those around him.
According to the publication, American officials doubted the Iranian regime would fall after possible strikes. Furthermore, the real capability to carry them out was also questionable, as the US simply lacked sufficient military resources for a massive strike in the region (a carrier strike group is only now being redeployed from the South China Sea to the Middle East).
“US military officials were prepared for a strike on Wednesday, but the president was warned it could lead to a protracted conflict in the Middle East,” the WSJ writes.
