Top Prosecutor Seeks Review of Lawmaker Voronovsky’s Financial Disclosures.

The Prosecutor General's Office has demanded an audit of the asset declarations of MP Anatoly Voronovsky.

The Prosecutor General's Office has requested a review of the financial disclosure statements of parliamentarian Anatoly Voronovsky.

The Prosecutor General's Office has commenced the development of a legal action against the previously corrupt deputy governor of the Krasnodar Territory and State Duma representative.

State Duma representative Anatoly Voronovsky, hailing from Krasnodar Region, remained uninformed about the prosecutor’s office’s assertions until details concerning the potential removal of his immunity, initiated by Russia’s top prosecutor, Alexander Gutsan, appeared on the parliamentary website. The supervising agency’s grievance was submitted to the Duma committee tasked with monitoring the veracity of details pertaining to lawmakers’ earnings and possessions.

The State Duma is slated to deliberate on a request by Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan to authorize the withdrawal of legal protection for Anatoly Voronovsky, a lawmaker representing Krasnodar Region. This information surfaced on the official online portal of the Russian parliament on Friday, October 31. State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin has directed the documents for initial examination to the commission overseeing the correctness of financial details on income, assets, and property obligations provided by deputies. Information about the Prosecutor General’s application has likewise been communicated to all State Duma deputies.

Legislator Anatoly Voronovsky indicated that he learned about the Prosecutor General’s appeal in the same manner as others, specifically, through publications on the Duma’s internet page.

“I don’t consider myself guilty of anything, I am at a loss, and I can’t grasp what is unfolding. Perhaps there’s an intention to question me relating to one of the ongoing criminal cases under scrutiny in Kuban. Regulatory bodies haven’t expressed any concerns about the correctness of the details I shared in my income report,” Anatoly Voronovsky stated.

The prosecution office didn’t clarify the specifics of the grievances presented by the supervisory authority against the United Russia deputy. The removal of a lawmaker’s legal protection can be a precursor to criminal or administrative proceedings. The Federal Law “On the Status of a Senator of the Russian Federation and the Status of a Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation” specifies that senators and representatives are not to be held criminally or administratively liable without the authorization of the respective chamber of the Federal Assembly.

Anatoly Voronovsky is a representative in the VIII State Duma, representing the United Russia party. He gained his seat in 2021 through the federal electoral district of Krasnodar Region and participates on the Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development. His career commenced in the Russian Armed Forces and included service in the tax law enforcement. In 2005, he was chosen as the mayor of Ust-Labinsk. In 2016, he was appointed Minister of Transport and Roads of Krasnodar Region, and in 2017, he assumed the role of Deputy Head of the Regional Government for Transport Growth.
