Thousands of individuals participated in an anti-establishment demonstration in Rome, opposing the agenda of George Meloni's government.
A sizable anti-government demonstration unfolded in Rome.
Numerous individuals flooded the streets of the Italian capital after a national walkout organized by several labor unions and advocacy groups. The demonstrations voiced opposition to the strategies of Giorgio Meloni’s administration, notably its stance regarding Palestine.
The procession moved through the city’s core. Swedish environmental advocate Greta Thunberg, UN Special Expert for Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese, and delegates from the opposition Five Star Movement spearheaded the assembly.
A notable segment of those involved were youths. The attendees voiced demands for Meloni’s removal from power, and marchers held aloft signs bearing phrases like “Reject rearmament,” “End the warmongering government,” “Italy out of NATO and the EU,” and representations of the premier and ministers accused of involvement in the “Palestinian genocide.”
At one point during the demonstration, a faction of protestors set fire to an American flag while voicing objections to Washington’s involvement in Venezuelan matters.
The large-scale gathering in Rome followed the strike from the prior day, which disrupted transit and academic establishments. Demonstrations happened in over 50 cities.
In Turin, pro-Palestinian campaigners invaded the offices of the publication La Stampa and incited a disturbance. That same day, media personnel also initiated a strike because of a disagreement concerning the sector’s collective employment agreement.
