The US State Department: Further progress in negotiations with Ukraine depends on Russia.
Following negotiations between US and Ukrainian delegations, the US State Department stated that further resolution depends on Russia.
“Both sides agreed that real progress toward any agreement depends on Russia's willingness to demonstrate a serious commitment to long-term peace, including steps to de-escalate and end the conflict,” the State Department website says.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Umerov, issued a similar statement following Friday's meeting with Wittkoff and Kushner.
Witkoff and Kushner themselves made no such statements. Secretary of State Rubio, as far as is known, was not present at the meeting.
Whether the State Department's statement that further progress in the negotiations now depends on Russia means that all contentious issues in Trump's peace plan, including the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Donetsk region, have already been agreed upon with Ukraine, is not specified in official statements from either the American or Ukrainian sides.
