The US destroyed two transport planes during an operation to rescue a pilot in Iran.

Two American aircraft had to be destroyed during a rescue operation for a pilot in Iran to prevent them from falling into enemy hands, CBS News reports, citing sources.

According to the TV channel, the transport aircraft in question were used in the operation but were unable to leave the temporary site. As a result, they were destroyed on the spot.

The rest of the operation, according to media reports, was accompanied by air strikes and drone cover.

According to Reuters, the pilot hid in the mountains for nearly two days and was evacuated overnight. American MQ Reaper drones reportedly struck Iranian search teams approaching the pilot.

Trump earlier said the operation was carried out without casualties and called it “one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history.”
