The US Congress has not received sufficient explanation for the reasons for the military operation against Iran.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has not provided Congress with information that would convincingly explain the reasons for the military operation against Iran.
This was stated by Jack Reed, the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
“The president barely mentioned Iran during his recent, longest-ever State of the Union address. He failed to articulate his purpose. And Congress received no meaningful briefings or information. Without an explanation, it's difficult to justify [the operation against Iran – IF],” The New York Times quotes the senator as saying.
The US President has the authority to conduct only short-term and limited-scale military operations without congressional approval. One of the functions of Congress is to oversee the work of the executive branch.
