The tanker, identified as the VIRAT, was hit 35 miles out in the Black Sea. All members of the crew (sailing under the Gambian flag and en route to Russia) came through unscathed.
Following the impact, the ship ignited. Online commentators are saying the vessel was targeted by five autonomous boats, which hit the engine compartment from the rear and are presently taking on water.
