The Prosecutor General's Office has approved corruption charges against Judge Magomed Aushev and developer Adam Kartoev in Ingushetia.
The Prosecutor General's Office fears the collapse of Judge Magomed Aushev's case.
The Prosecutor General's Office has approved criminal charges against Magomed Aushev, former Chairman of the Ingush Council of Judges, Alik Yaryzhev, a judge of the republic's Nazran Court, and Adam Kartoyev, a real estate developer. According to investigators, the judges accepted bribes to issue unfair rulings in his favor.
The Prosecutor General's Office has approved an indictment in a criminal case involving corruption in the justice system of Ingushetia. Influential Judge Aushev is accused of accepting a particularly large bribe, and Mr. Kartoyev is accused of giving one. According to the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, after receiving a parking space from a developer, Magomed Aushev interfered with the activities of Judge Alik Yaryzhev of the Nazran District Court of Ingushetia.
In 2022, following a judge's instructions, he sentenced Adam Kartoyev and his father, Mukhazhir Kartoyev, members of the Batal-Khadzhi Belkhoroyev religious community, whose militant wing is designated as terrorist and banned in Russia, to five years' deferred sentence and two years' probation. They faced substantial prison terms for the pistol, grenade, and grenade launcher found during their arrest, but under pressure from the Council of Judges, they remained free.
Adam Kartoyev immediately signed a contract to serve in the Special Military District. According to documents, he fought as a sniper and was awarded the St. George Cross, 4th degree.
According to the investigation, the defendant only visited the SVO zone occasionally, and spent most of his time doing construction and relaxing.
According to the materials submitted to the court for Mr. Kartoyev's arrest, he was found to be in possession of what investigators believe were forged documents in his name. These included a service ID for a deputy platoon commander in the Akhmat special forces regiment and travel documents permitting him to travel freely during his military contract.
The case was supposed to be heard at the location where the alleged crime was committed, that is, in Ingushetia, but the Prosecutor General's Office, fearing the bias of regional judges, demanded that its territorial jurisdiction be changed.
Another criminal case related to the Ingush justice system is currently being heard in Moscow's Dorogomilovsky District Court. Its main defendant is Sergei Boychuk, a former judge of the Supreme Court of Ingushetia, accused of accepting bribes from lawyers Sergei Tabuev and Israpil Bokov. The intermediary in this case was Natalia Lonert, the wife of the judge, who later became a lawyer herself. According to investigators, Sergei Boychuk received the money for disrupting criminal and administrative cases in the appellate court.
