The General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia has recognized the activities of the international non-governmental organization World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in the Russian Federation as undesirable. This became known from a message published in the official Telegram channel of the Russian department.
It states that, in fact, WWF uses its environmental activities to “implement projects that form security threats in the economic sphere.” It is also noted that Nevil Isdell, a British citizen, is in charge of such processes.
Under the pretext of preserving the environment, WWF is carrying out activities aimed at preventing the implementation of the country’s political course for the industrial development of the Arctic, natural resources in the subarctic territories, the development and legitimization of restrictions that can “serve as a basis for shifting the Northern Sea Route in the direction of the US exclusive economic zone.”
The department also indicated that the fund has formed a rating of environmental responsibility of Russian companies in various areas, which is in accordance with the subjective standards and criteria of WWF, which independently determine enterprises worthy of a “green status”.
In addition, the organization provided material and methodological support to Russian non-profit organizations included in the register of foreign agents. Their members have already been brought to administrative responsibility for committing offenses in connection with taking part in unauthorized rallies, which also indicates WWF interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation, the department stressed.
In March, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation included WWF in the register of foreign agents. The department then emphasized that this organization received support from foreign sources, and under the guise of activities to protect nature and the environment, the biological diversity of species, representatives of the fund tried to influence the decisions of the executive and legislative authorities of the Russian Federation, hindered the implementation of a number of projects.
