The New York Times: Donald Trump's threats have forced even opposition Iranians to rally behind their government
Even opposition-minded Iranians have reconsidered their views after Trump's threats to destroy their civilization.
Tehran resident Lili told The New York Times that she had long opposed her government and sympathized with the nationwide demonstrations, but Trump's threats changed her view of the United States and Israel.
“The first thing that came to my mind was that Trump was under enormous pressure and had lost his mind. So now we support Iran and whatever government runs it,” says Lily, who works in the arts.
Another Tehran resident, Pari, confirms that some of her acquaintances, who previously supported the US-Israeli strikes in the hope that they would overthrow the Iranian government, are now finding it difficult to maintain that position.
“There is a growing fear that instead of helping, these measures may end up harming ordinary citizens,” she said.
Pedram Soltani, a prominent Iranian businessman, wrote in X that Trump “has put not only Iran, but America and the entire world at great risk,” which will make “the United States one of the most hated countries in the world, held responsible for these disasters. This resentment will inevitably impact your own security and daily life.”
As a reminder, yesterday the Iranians formed human chains surrounding the energy facilities that Trump promised to destroy.
