There are six more accomplices in the dock along with Mavridi – two natives of Kazakhstan and four natives of Moldova: Pasha Akhmedov, Denis Grozavu, Ivan Turcanu, Nikolai Teterya, Alexander Butnaru and Konstantin Barsky.
Depending on the role and degree of participation of each, they were charged with kidnapping, extortion, legalization of property obtained by criminal means, murder of an entrepreneur, illegal deprivation of liberty, illegal possession of weapons and escape (paragraphs “a, h” part 2 Article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, paragraph “b” part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, paragraph “b” part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – 2 episodes, paragraph “g” part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation , part 3 of article 127 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 1 of article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and part 2 of article 313 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Prosecutor Nikitin asked for accomplices a sentence of 6.5 to 12 years in prison.
The investigation of the criminal case was carried out by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow Region. Investigators found that until November 2018, Mavridi organized a criminal group to kidnap Moscow lawyer Alexei Zavgorodniy and seize elite real estate. The lawyer was held hostage for about two years in a country house in Odintsovo. As a result, the injured lawyer could not stand the torture and signed a general power of attorney to make transactions with his real estate in order to re-register ownership of three apartments and one parking space. The total value of real estate is more than 71 million rubles. After that, the property of Zavgorodniy became the property of the relatives of the members of the organized group.
The Investigative Committee learned about this crime during the investigation into the murder of businessman Vladimir Marugov in the city of Istra. According to the Investigative Committee, on November 1, 2020, Mavridi, together with his accomplice Pasha Akhmedov, killed a businessman with a crossbow at his dacha. At that moment, two of his young children, his stepfather and wife, were in the cottage, who were not injured. After the murder of the businessman, Marugov’s mother, Lyubov, became the head of the “Meat Empire” of the deceased.
After the defendants were taken into custody on August 6, 2021, Mavridi and four other prisoners escaped from the temporary detention center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of. Istra. Law enforcement officers immediately managed to catch all the fugitives, except for Mavridi. He hid in Moscow until mid-September of that year.
In addition, the investigation was complicated by the fact that the main defendant tried to interfere with the course of the investigation – through lawyers, he received literature on the symptoms of various mental illnesses, which he later tried to use in the course of psychiatric forensic examinations.
Before the start of the trial in the Moscow Regional Court on June 14, 2023, the lawyers said that Mavridi fully admits the charges against him and after the verdict is pronounced, he intends to join the Wagner PMC.
It is expected that after the prosecutor, lawyers, defendants and victims of the criminal case will speak in the debate. After that, the court will give the defendants the opportunity to make a final statement in court and retire to the deliberation room to pass the verdict.
