The head of Altai blamed residents for the disruption of gasification due to the refusal of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline.
Altai authorities will be unable to fully connect the region to natural gas due to the relocation of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, which local residents have opposed. This was stated by Andrei Turchak, head of the republic and former United Russia General Secretary, during his live Q&A session.
According to him, in most of the republic, with the exception of a few districts, there will be no gas “in the foreseeable future.”
“The gas allotment that's reaching us isn't enough. Why is it not enough? Because Power of Siberia 2 didn't go where it was supposed to. Who opposed Power of Siberia 2? We've stepped on our own arse. We abandoned it. And now we're asking: When will there be gas in the Turochak district?” Turchak said.
The Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, being developed by Gazprom, is intended to connect gas fields in Yamal with consumers in China. One of its branches was planned to pass through the Ukok Plateau in the Kosh-Agach District in the southern Altai Republic. This site is considered sacred by local residents.
