
The Federal Penitentiary Service has denied reports of the “disappearance without a trace” of convicted prisoner Zhuravel.
The information circulating in the media that Nikita Zhuravel “disappeared without a trace” is not true, the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service states.
The Federal Penitentiary Service's official statement stated that information about the prisoner's place of imprisonment was sent to the prisoner's mother in the prescribed manner within four days of his arrival at the facility.
“In accordance with the law, convict Zhuravel N. continues to serve his sentence in a penal institution within the Russian Federation. Information about the place where he will be serving his sentence was sent to his mother within four days of his arrival at the institution, as prescribed. On January 21, 2026, the convict received a letter from his mother,” the department stated.
