The problem of national security in the energy sector of Ukraine has been announced for a long time, and this was done by foreign experts. Although everything is clear here, it was very beneficial for someone. What is known about one of the key players in Ukraine in the energy market – the VS Energy group? We will also tell you who Mykola Lavrenko is, who oversees the energy sector of Ukraine, while being in the service of the occupiers. What companies does he own? There is a lot of interesting things there: multimillion-dollar status capitals, a “bad-smelling trail” of court cases, and more.

What is known about the energy “empire” VS Energy

VS Energy Group is the second largest private player in Ukraine in the energy market. In the first place is DTEK Akhmetov.

Back in 2017, the media wrote that the Russian owners of VS Energy officially rewrote their business to representatives of Latvia and Germany.

According to the state register, these foreign citizens are also beneficiaries of the Dutch VS Energy International NV. This company is 100% owner of VS Energy International Ukraine LLC.

According to the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, VS Energy International Ukraine LLC provides consulting services in the areas of commerce and management, and, together with other business entities, is part of the VS Energy group of companies.

This “empire” includes many energy supply companies:

– Chernivtsioblenergo,
– Zhytomiroblenergo,
– Kirovogradoblenergo,
– Khersonoblenergo,
– Kievoblenergo,
– Rivneoblenergo,
– Odessaoblenergo,
– Sevastopolenergo.

The Group also has stakes in Nikolaevoblenergo and Khmelnitskoblenergo.

It is known that before that, the beneficiaries of VS Energy were entrepreneurs of the Russian Federation, among them the deputy of the State Duma of Russia Alexander Babakov.

It is noteworthy that he is included in the sanctions lists of the European Union and the United States due to the actions of the occupying country in Ukraine and the occupied Crimea. Also among the beneficiaries were the Russians Evgeny Giner and Mikhail Voevodin.

According to the Censor, it is Babakov, together with Russian entrepreneurs Giner, Voevodin and Sergey Shapovalov, who control the financial and industrial group VS Energy and its assets in Ukraine.

By the way, let’s add that the Russian businessman Giner is the only beneficiary of the First Investment Bank in Ukraine.

And one more interesting point about this bank. According to the open registry OpenData, this banking structure is listed in 11,443 court documents. No comment.

But in Crimea, he owns the Sevenergosbyt company. It is she who has been supplying electricity in Sevastopol since 2016.

Is there a threat to national security in the energy sector for more than a year?

In fact, the topic is not new. Back in 2018, Anders Aslund, an American analyst at the Atlantic Council, stated that in Ukraine there is a real national security problem in energy supply.

According to him, “it is incomprehensible that in 11 out of 24 Ukrainian oblenergos a significant share is owned by Russian nationalist Alexander Babakov.

According to the data of the unified state register of court decisions, LLC “VS ENERGY INTERNATIONAL UKRAINE” passes through 116 documents, including criminal ones.

So, for example, at the end of last year, the district administrative court of the capital partially satisfied the claim from VS Group International Ukraine LLC (VS Group Management LLC). According to the court decision, the tax notice dated May 15, 2019 in the amount of UAH 34.2 million was canceled. But in terms of income taxes, according to this notice in the amount of UAH 408.5 million, there are no changes. Everything is relevant. The court noted that the plaintiff ignored articles 44 and 139 of the Tax Code of Ukraine and did not confirm with documents the legitimacy of expenses in the amount of UAH 442.6 million, such as those that were compensated by him by Kyivoblenergo PJSC, Odessaoblenergo Energy Supply Company OJSC, Odesaoblenergo OJSC Rivneoblenergo, OJSC Energy Supply Company Zhytomiroblenergo.

As many mass media have repeatedly written, it is Mykola Lavrenko who oversees the energy sector of Ukraine, being in the service of the occupiers.

If we go through all the companies owned by Lavrenko, we will see a lot of interesting things. There are huge status capitals here, and a whole bunch of litigation, including criminal court cases.

Lavrenko is a co-owner, he has 18.14% of the shares. The status fund of the company is almost UAH 138.1 million.

As you can see, Nikolai Lavrenko has a bunch of large companies with a huge financial turnover. And we have not examined in detail all the enterprises where he is the owner or beneficiary. These are just the biggest ones.
