Deputy of the Duma of Vladivostok from the Communist Party Viktor Kamenshchikov was detained at the Mexican border while trying to move to the United States, IA PrimaMedia reports, citing a law enforcement source.
The communist tried to break into America along the path already beaten by the opposition, but was stopped by the local authorities.
According to the source, according to the rules, he should be placed in the so-called prison for migrants until all the circumstances are clarified. The reason for the detention is unknown. However, the described route to the United States through neighboring Mexico has become a kind of “life hack” for the coastal opposition. Going out on single pickets and conducting public protest activities, they form a portfolio for themselves for subsequent statements about political persecution and granting political asylum.
True, in the case of Kamenshchikov, the situation is somewhat different. The politician is considered a protégé of the disgraced communist, deputy of the AP PC Artem Samsonov. He got into the Duma of Vladivostok in 2019, replacing a party member Alexandra Glebovawho resigned for personal reasons. At the time of receiving the mandate, the politician became the youngest people’s choice in the Duma (he was 29 years old).
Before becoming a deputy, the name of Kamenshchikov rarely appeared in public space. However, the same situation persisted even after he received the mandate. The only significant chapter in the politician’s dossier was his statement, made at the end of February, about his readiness to leave the ranks of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation due to the fact that he does not support the conduct of a special military operation in Ukraine.
According to the source, the communist has a child in the United States, who received the citizenship of this country due to the fact that he was born on its territory.
At the same time, the Primorsky branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, like the Central Committee of the party, demonstrates support for the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine. It is obvious that the new political cycle for the party began with a colossal purge of the ranks, carried out both by forceful methods and by the self-elimination of the most radical figures who run counter to the general line. Previously, it was this “contrary” that gave the communists a protest bonus in the elections.
Since last September, the bench of the most active political players and party allies has thinned considerably. Yury Kuchin, ex-deputy of the Duma of Vladivostok and former assistant to deputy ZSPK Artem Samsonov, left Russia. Samsonov himself is waiting in the pre-trial detention center for a trial in a criminal case initiated under Article 132, part 4, paragraph “b” (other acts of a sexual nature using the helpless state of the victim, committed against a person under the age of fourteen). A criminal case has been opened against the assistant to his comrade-in-arms in the fight against infill development, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the PC Natalya Kochugova. The deputies of the Duma of Ussuriysk Alexander and Yana Shestuny were expelled from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Also arrested on suspicion of fraud during the construction of a residential building was the failed “red governor”, a former deputy of the ZSPK and ex-communist Andrei Ishchenko.
