The court of Stavropol seized in favor of the state the property of the former head of the traffic police in the Stavropol Territory Alexey Safonov and his relatives for 180 million rubles, said the Prosecutor General’s Office, which filed a corresponding lawsuit. Safonov is on trial for bribery. Land plots, apartments and premium-class cars were confiscated by a court decision, the report said.
“At the suit of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, the property of the former head of the UGIBDD of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Stavropol Territory, Alexei Safonov, worth about 180 million rubles, was turned into state revenue,” the report says.
The court’s decision has not yet entered into force, the Prosecutor General’s Office clarified.
The agency filed a lawsuit in December 2021. According to the prosecutor’s office, Safonov, his relatives and friends purchased real estate and other property, but did not provide information about the legal sources of funds for which it was bought. During the consideration of the case, the claim was clarified, since other expensive property was discovered.
In the same December, the court imposed interim measures on Safonov’s assets. He tried to hide them from declaring, copying them to his mother, ex-wife and her relatives, Kommersant wrote. It was about 22 real estate objects and six foreign cars, estimated at no less than 83 million rubles.
The former head of the traffic police department for the Stavropol Territory, Alexei Safonov, was detained in July 2021. He is charged under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code (taking a bribe by an organized group on an especially large scale). During the investigation, he found mansion with golden toiletas well as more than two dozen real estate objects and six cars.
